Overview:
This seminar provides an in-depth refresher on SQL tuning techniques for Db2 for z/OS applications. Participants will gain insights into how the Db2 optimizer processes queries and learn best practices for optimizing SQL performance. The session covers the various optimization stages, execution plans, and strategies for improving query efficiency. Real-world examples and case studies will demonstrate the impact of tuning decisions on performance.
Key Topics:
· Overview of the Db2 optimizer: how it analyzes and processes SQL
· Understanding access paths and explain tools
· Best practices for writing efficient SQL queries
· Common SQL performance pitfalls and how to avoid them
· Indexing strategies and their impact on performance
· Practical tuning techniques for improving response time and resource consumption
· Case studies and hands-on analysis of real SQL tuning scenarios
10/JUN: Modern Applications in Db2 for z/OS
Overview:
This seminar explores best practices for integrating Db2 for z/OS into modern, heterogeneous application environments. As organizations adopt distributed architectures, microservices, and cloud-native technologies, understanding how Db2 for z/OS fits into these ecosystems is essential. Participants will learn about secure connectivity, authentication mechanisms, and the latest Db2 functions that support modern application development.
Key Topics:
· Architecting distributed applications with Db2 for z/OS
· Secure connections: SSL, certificates, and authentication best practices
· REST APIs, web services, and Db2 for z/OS integration
· Using modern Db2 functions to enhance application capabilities
· Performance considerations in multi-platform environments
· Practical examples of successful Db2 for z/OS integration strategies
11/JUN: Route to Db2 roots: DSNZPARM review
Overview:
Db2 for zOS configuration parameters are set and maintained through the well-known DSNZPARM module. Along the Db2 versions, some parameters disappeared, some still stay but almost forgotten and new ones are coming out to cover the new functionalities and enhancements developed or to update existing capabilities.
As per Db2 13, there are more than 300 parameters. This seminar reviews the most important parameters, grouped by the Db2 functionalities or areas where they apply and focused on latest Db2 13.
Key Topics:
· DSNZPARM
· Utility parameters
· Application parameters
· Thread parameters
· Performance parameters
· Logging
